To speak of it again * my journey from innocence* by Dina Redmon

I went into this book thinking I was not going to like it because it is not in my usual genre of reading BUT I DID. The book made me feel for character. At first I was like oh this poor girl. She had some very hard teenage years, but she survived. After a failed first marriage she meets Jared whom she falls for hard. After eleven years of marriage she catches him f***ing her sister instead of following her heart she follows her brain and gets out of there to start a new life. She meets a couple more guys who also turn out to be Mr. Wrongs.I really loved the ending when she decides to be her,nit a caregiver just her.It was time to concentrate on her.
4 stars I really liked this book.

When Katherine “Kate” leaves for her freshmen year at college, a grounded and stable piece of her is missing. She pushes away the ghosts of her past, determined to start her college life single, carefree and distracted.

Throughout high school Kate was reserved and shy, with little experience. Now, on her own, with little holding her back, Kate is ready to branch out. She bonds with a tight knit group of friends and even starts casually dating. What starts out as innocent flirting on the tennis courts slowly turns into a friendship and eventually something more complex. Reed comes into her life giving her the distraction she craves more than anything; but is she ready to give her heart away so easily?

Things get complicated when Kate’s ex-boyfriend and first love continues to pursue her. Kyle deeply regrets breaking her heart when he left for college the year before and is now on a mission to reclaim her. Kyle’s persistence and relentlessness is nothing short of obsessive. He will stop at nothing to win her back and prove his love.

Kate finds herself torn between her past and the unknown of the future. Her determination to stay distracted may just be her downfall or the beginning of something new and wonderful.

EXCERPT –

I don’t even care that there are now three different girls talking to Reed. I sneak up behind him and tap him on the shoulder. He turns around and the look of shock and surprise on his face causes me to start giggling. He turns completely around with his back to the other three girls and gives me a smile that touches his blue eyes. His squared jaw highlights his smile perfectly. In this instant of a moment I decide I want to kiss Reed even if it’s just for fun and to forget.“You’re kidding me. Wow! I can’t believe you came here.”

“I told you we would. You didn’t think I would do it, did you?”

“Honestly, no, but I was hoping. I never see you out on the weekends anymore, so this is a great surprise.”

We stand there for a minute and then he orders me a beer. I take it, but nurse it. I’ve had a bit much already and don’t want the spins. He asks me and Quinn to play a game of pool with him and Matt. Matt wants to play girls against guys, but Reed says no way that he wants me on his team. I warn him that I am not that good, but alcohol may help my case.

We play the game and I actually do pretty well. Reed touches me every chance he gets and is very flirty. It’s my turn and I have to bend over to make a shot, but to be honest I forget that I have a dress on.

“Shit, Katherine,” he lets out in a bit of gruff tone and walks up behind me to cover me.

I laugh at him. “Oops, I forgot about my dress.”

“You look good enough as it is and now with a dress on. Jesus, I don’t need to get in a fight.” He is still pressed behind me as I continue to make my shot. I miss completely because to be honest I’m completely distracted.

“I doubt anyone noticed, but thanks for protecting me.” He steps back and I turn around. I decide to be bold and kiss his cheek.

“Trust me, you were noticed.” He moves a piece of hair from my face and the touch sends a chill through me. “God, you are so beautiful.”

Excerpt

In an attempt to lighten the mood, I changed the subject. Uncrossing my legs, I planted my feet slightly apart in front of me and propped my elbows on my knees.

“I also brought some fruit… grapes and strawberries.” I smiled big at my attempt to be sweet.

“Ahh. Actually, grapes would be great, but I’m allergic to strawberries,” he said with a bashful look on his face.

“Oh, what a shame,” I said with a hint of seduction in my voice. “Because they’re very plump and juicy. I just love strawberries.”

“Oh, you do, do you?” he teased.

I nodded, biting my lip out of nervousness with what I was about to do.

Then, I did the most daring thing I could think of.

I grabbed one of the strawberries and slowly brought it to my mouth. I parted my lips and thrust my tongue slightly out to meet with the delicious red morsel. I bit down while sucking the juices slowly. My eyes fluttered and rolled shut as I enjoyed the delicious flavors bursting onto my taste buds. Seductively, I flicked the leftover green cap into the grass beside us, then began licking and sucking on the two fingers that were covered with the sticky juice.

After enjoying each slow chew, I opened my eyes to gaze upon a man with power and hunger in his eyes. Hunger for me.

The next thing I knew, Aiden was on his hands and knees, methodically making his way towards me.

Out of sheer instinct, I backed away while keeping my legs slightly apart and propping myself back on my arms. He continued his prowl until he was kneeling between my knees with both his hands braced beside me.

He edged closer to me, his lips hovering precariously close to mine. A sudden gasp of breath was all I could manage before our lips met.

His right hand steadied my upper back while he held himself up with his left, hovering over me. His chest pressed hot and hard against mine. Our tongues met and tangled together. I struggled for air but couldn’t pull away. He consumed me.

About the Author

Rene Folsom, author of paranormal romance and erotica, lives in Florida with her husband and three kids. She has officially diagnosed herself with creative ADD and, if it weren’t for her day job as a web programmer, she would have a million and one writing projects going at once. In addition to web design, she is also a graphic artist who loves to create custom book cover designs for indie authors. She is definitely an artist at heart and would love nothing more than to be elbow deep in clay during her waking hours.

Rene believes that all fiction is based on some form of reality—otherwise we would never have the inspiration or knowledge to dream up the realistic situations we portray with our words. She is proud to say that her personal experiences have been inspirational, though perhaps not always identical to that of her fictional characters. Where reality and fantasy diverge, however, must remain her little secret…

Amethyst is either the catalyst to bring nightmares fully into this realm, or the one to end them. Can she find the power to stop the darkness, or will she wind up its prey?

Pretty little nymph, suspicious but sexy earth fae, cocky mage, and a nightmare of old.

ShadowsOfThePast

A little taste

Hayden was already a good distance from Brody’s dock when he heard the crunch of gravel near Brody’s dock. He turned and saw Amethyst’s hair from where he was, and ducked into the brush. He didn’t want to startle her, but he was curious what she was doing out there.

His breath caught as she pulled her shirt over her head and her high, full breasts bounced free. She hooked her thumbs in her skirt and slipped it off, leaving her bare. He was painfully hard from just a glimpse at a distance. The little nymph might just kill him if she got any closer.

She dove into the water. Well, that answered his question. He wanted to smack himself. That should have been obvious. Of course, lake plus nymph equals swim. He should have figured that out. Now it was too late to let her know he was watching without coming off like a pervert, which he now was because he couldn’t take his eyes off of her as she swam closer

Amethyst was at home in the water, and free of any inhibitions as she swam. He knew he wore a genuine smile as he watched her move gracefully through the lake.

Sometimes in life….

Things were supposed to get better when Ryan met Lili. I was supposed to move on, get a life… but I’m stuck and lost. Things with my father are not good. There are demons in our closet, big ones. I don’t know where to look, how to get anchored again, and then I meet Zoe Stone. Something about her draws me out of my rut, makes me laugh for real, smile, and for the first time in years I want to be more. But what will she think when she discovers who I really am?

…all we have…

Everything about him. I want to help him, I want to be with him, now I just have to make him trust me enough to let me in.

Is Right Now

Excerpt:
Be opposite.
I stared at the slip of paper in my hand longer than I should have. It was just a fortune from a stupid fortune cookie, nothing spiritual or profound about it, but the words just sank into my brain, echoing through my skull like the blare of a horn.
Be opposite, as opposed to what?
Not opposite? Not me? Not this screwed up twat I’ve become.
I was sitting in a hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant with a pair of brunette twins I just picked up at the club an hour ago. My head was pounding like someone took a damn pile driver to it, and the twins wouldn’t stop giggling and laughing like a bunch of drunken baboons.
“Alex,” Claudia or Claudette whispered, hooking her finger at me as she jerked her head toward the women’s bathroom.
The girls were hot.
Tight, little bodies. A Cindy Crawford mole above their lips, size D breasts and dressed like college co-eds trying out the whole hooker fantasy, right down to the fishnet stockings on their supple thighs.
But see, that was the thing. Women like that, they’re a dime a dozen. If I wasn’t there with them, I’d have been there with someone else.
Always someone else.
My head was driving me nuts and the greasy lo mein wasn’t making me feel any better.
Twin one wearing a Union Jack inspired crop top was running a brightly painted ruby red fingernail along the edge of her V-neck, forcing my eyes to the heaving mounds of yummy goodness tucked beneath the lacy bra playing peek-a-boo beneath her sheer top.
Twin two was running her hand up twin one’s arm and they both looked at me like they were still hungry.
The restaurant was pretty much dead, just a few leftover stragglers from the club next door and no one was batting a lash at us. In a college town stuff like this happens every Saturday night. Austin’s motto: Keep Austin Weird… yeah, we fit right in.
I got up from my seat, yanked twin one up and led her to the bathroom.
Sex was sex, right? Didn’t matter where you had it, so long as you had it?
That’s what I used to think.
But leaning against the stall ten minutes later, while the twins went down on me, mouths taking turns… I was still a limp noodle.
I didn’t know what was wrong with me, but I knew banging sorority twins in this skanked up shit hole just wasn’t doing it anymore. Curling my nose, I shoved the twins off and pulled my pants up.
They were laughing, hugging onto each other. “Can’t even get it up. What a freak.”
And maybe I was, because these girls were hotter than any Playboy pinup and it just wasn’t working.
“Screw this,” I hissed, tossing a twenty in their laps. “Pay the bill and get a cab.”
“Whatever, dick.” Twin two grabbed twin one and they sauntered out, their tiny asses failing to even inspire a hint of drool in me as they drunkenly waltzed out the door on dangerously high, stripper heels.
I walked to the sink, then splashed some water on my face, trying not to lean against the wall littered with hardened nubs of old, chewed up gum and whatever the hell else had been plastered on it.
This place was a nasty dump. But I didn’t want to go back to the house. Not just yet. Ryan and Lili were there, and their kid, Javier. Ever since Lili’s mom died last year, she’d been living with us, almost a year now.
In four months they’d be getting married. Which was a good thing, I guess. I mean, hell, I liked that my asshole cousin had finally found someone sane and healthy, who made him laugh, and made him realize living was okay.
But it sucked to be in the middle of their love fest, to hear the sounds pouring through their walls almost every night.
I didn’t belong in that house anymore.
Grinding my molars until my jaw ached, I glanced down at my limp body. What the hell had that been about back there?
Looking into the mirror I barely recognized the face staring back at me. Who was I? I didn’t have a freaking clue.
Walking back out, I saw the fortune still lying on the dirty table. Grabbing it, I shoved it into my pocket and headed out. Not sure where I was going.
